Rally at Indio Elks

Submitted by MaryAnn Cathey

A few Shanty Shakers braved the snow, wind and rain to enjoy the sun in Indio.  Unfortunately for the first couple of days the cold, wind and rain followed us.

Luckily, we were warm and dry while celebrating Judy Carle’s 70th birthday with the Indio Elks at their Thursday dinner.

Friday and Saturday dawned warm and sunny, so we were able to explore the area and enjoy the sites.  Saturday most of us went to the College of the Desert street fair where we had fun shopping at the many varied and unique vendors.

Shirley Kuzmunich, a new Escapee and RV’er, joined us with her dog Bella.  She was able to learn much about RVing and her rig from the experienced RV’ers in the group. (see her input below)

Judy and Garth Carle brought friends, Ken and Jean, from Prescott Arizona.  They all missed the “storm or the century” at home which dumped 20+ inches of snow! (they were snowed out and had to delay their return home)

The Indio Elks is a wonderful rally spot.  The Camp Hosts, Carol and Bill, were helpful and welcoming as were the Elks members.  The weather is almost always warm and sunny.  😎Best of all the area provides many fascinating, fun and exciting things to do.

My first rally experience with the Escapees Shanty Shakers Chapter was better than I could imagined.  Wow I had so much fun and felt so very welcomed by a group of fun loving funny incredibly helpful fellow RVers.  Loved our happy hour time to have snacks and hang out.  We were in Indio for four nights at the Elks Lodge and what a great location, even though I never left the lot lols.  There was a lodge serving food and drinks and town close by also.  Palm Springs had a lot going on to visit, but I was happy being a newbie just figuring out my motorhome and how to use all the buttons.  I very much appreciated the offer to ride with them to Palm Springs and dinner though.

I filled out my application before I even left and am thrilled to be welcomed into the group.  I was so very touched by all the people who answered a few hundred questions and showed me things on my rig I didn’t know I even had there.  My little dog Bella had fun with the other pups and got lots of love.  Everyone really went out of their way to make me feel safe and comfortable.  I feel so very blessed to have found this awesome group.  I already marked my calendar for the rally in April and look forward to seeing everyone again.

Blessings,
Shirley Kuzmunich
